Deer Burger

Richard
Deer burgers offer a flavorful, healthy alternative to traditional beef burgers. Venison is leaner, contains more protein, and provides a delicious, slightly sweet and earthy taste.

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Grill

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground venison
  • 1 Small onion finely chopped
  • 1 clove Garlic minced
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • as needed Burger buns
  • as needed Lettuce, tomatoes, pickles optional for topping

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine ground venison, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix until everything is well combined.
  • Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into round patties about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat or preheat your grill to medium-high. Add olive oil to the skillet or brush the grill with oil to prevent sticking.
  • Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, adjusting the time for your preferred level of doneness. Be careful not to overcook the venison as it is leaner than beef.
  • While the burgers cook, toast the buns by placing them in the skillet or on the grill until lightly browned.
  • Assemble the burgers by placing the cooked patties on the toasted buns. Top with lettuce, tomato, pickles, or any desired toppings. Serve immediately.

Notes

To keep venison burgers from falling apart, you can add a binder like breadcrumbs or eggs. Adding finely chopped bacon to the venison will also enhance the flavor and moisture.
